Which organization(s) are eligible for consideration?

At this time, in order to be considered at a meeting, an organization must be based in and serve the community directly in Surrey, South Surrey, White Rock, Langley or North Delta area and it must be a registered, not-for-profit or charitable organization able to provide tax receipts for donations.

We are not considering nominations to national or international charities, programs, or organizations at this time, as the current focus is on contributing to our local community. It must also be previously established (no start-ups).

We will accept multiple charity nominations for the same charity. All approved and legitimate charity nominations will be eligible to be drawn.

Once a charity has presented, they may not be selected again for two years.

How is the organization that receives the group donation chosen at each meeting?

A member can submit the name of a local organization for nomination at the meeting or online and three charities will be selected through a random draw, broadcast live on social media, approximately 6 weeks before the next meeting.

At the next meeting, the three selected charities will present a short introduction to their charity and why they should receive the donation (under 10 minutes). Presenters can be a representative from the charity or a member may present on their behalf. The presentation must not include PowerPoint or videos.

The group will then vote by secret ballot and select a charity out of the three.

All members and guests MUST donate that evening by cheque, cash or online to the charity selected by majority vote.

Are donations tax deductible?

Yes!! Only registered, not-for-profit and charitable organizations will be sponsored by the group. Donations should be submitted directly to selected charitable organizations at each meeting.

What if I am unable to attend a meeting?

If a member cannot attend a meeting s/he can send in a blank, signed cheque with another member to the meeting (preferred). The surrogate member may vote by proxy should the member have a preference, and will then write in the name of the charity that is chosen on the cheque and give it to the leaders on her behalf. The member can also make other arrangements to deliver the cheque or payment to one of the steering committee members. The member can only submit a vote for the charity if the cheque is received before or at the meeting.

How much of my donation goes to administrative costs?

0.00%! 100 People Who Care Surrey is organized and operated by a volunteer super team. 100% of the money raised at our meetings goes directly to the selected organization!

How long do the meetings last?

Meetings are intended to be very short and will last no longer than 60 minutes; however, members are invited to socialize after each meeting.

Can members bring a friend to the meeting?

Of course you can! We are always seeking new people to contribute their energy to the group.  In order to vote, s/he must commit to submitting their donation.
